Medical Restorative Massage Therapy
What is medical restorative massage therapy?
Medical restorative massage therapy is the
advanced practice of:
|
|
- |
Reducing pain and restoring physical function,
|
|
- |
Through the active application of blended massage
therapy techniques,
|
|
- |
Within
the structure of the M. T. Wellness medical model. |
|
The individual
results experienced by each client are based on a
process of working toward achieving specific pain
and physical function goals outlined in each
client’s plan of care. These goals are consistent
with the client and therapist’s expectations, and
the client’s physical condition and limitations.

What is the M. T. Wellness medical model?
The M.
T. Wellness medical model is a structured process
designed to identify the underlying causes of a
client’s dysfunctions and then develop and execute
a plan of care that will reduce pain and restore
physical function.
The
key steps in the M. T. Wellness model are:
|
|
- |
Assess
each client’s condition and identify specific
dysfunctions continuously during the course of
therapy. This step includes information provided
by the client and information gathered through
observation of the client’s posture, gait, and
body alignment.
|
|
- |
Develop objectives and a personalized plan of care
that includes appropriate active and passive
techniques.
|
|
- |
Execute the plan of care.
|
|
- |
Maintain charts and records to monitor progress
versus the plan of care. This step is repeated
before and after each massage.
|
|
- |
Communicate and work closely with other members of
the client’s health care team including
physicians, physical therapists and chiropractors
regarding the client’s progress and condition. |
